What Is Flake Epoxy Flooring?
Flake epoxy flooring — sometimes called chip flooring, broadcast flake, or full-broadcast epoxy — is a multi-layer decorative coating system installed over diamond-ground concrete. After surface preparation, a pigmented high-build epoxy basecoat is rolled at roughly 6–8 mils. While that basecoat is still wet, vinyl color chips (the 'flakes') are broadcast across the floor to full rejection, completely covering the basecoat in a textured layer of colored chips. Once the basecoat cures, excess flake is scraped and vacuumed, leaving a uniform decorative surface. Two coats of polyaspartic clear topcoat are then applied. The result is a seamless, decorative, slip-resistant floor that hides minor concrete imperfections and looks dramatically better than a builder-grade concrete slab.
